About me

I was born and raised in a tiny city in Spain called Guadalajara. My academic career has developed throughout Europe. Firstly, I studied international joint degree programme at Universidad de Alcalá (Spain) and Northumbria University (England) where I obtained a B.A. in English Language and Culture and a B.A. (Hons.) in Applied Modern Languages respectively. In 2011, I moved to Vienna to study as an Erasmus free mover and work as a language assistant. In 2012, I moved to Joensuu, Finland to study for an MA in English Language and Culture. It was when I developed a deep interest in sociolinguistics including what would become the topic of my PhD dissertation.

I defended my PhD dissertation in April 2023. The thesis explores how native speakers of Spanish and Finnish read, use, and perceive sexist and non-sexist language in English. The interest in comparing these three languages lies in the fact that they convey gender differently and address sexist language differently. If you would like to read more, you can find the whole dissertation here.

My research interests include sociolinguistics, bilingualism, cognitive linguistics and second language acquisition.
